Inspired by Joan Didion’s reflections in Blue Nights—“Memory fades. Memory adjusts. Memory conforms to what we think we remember”—Time Passes centers on 60 images from Diamond’s The 60 Year Project, each representing a pivotal moment from every year of the artist’s life.

Sourced from Diamond’s personal and family archives, the photographs have been reimagined through digital drawing and tin-type printing. These transformations strip away surface detail to reveal emotional essence, creating a visual language that is both deeply personal and universally resonant. From childhood to adulthood, the series captures everyday moments and life-altering events—stories that are intimate yet widely relatable.

Contributing writers include Myra Goldberg, Kathleen Hill, Joan Larkin, Mary Ann McFadden, Robin Messing, Joan Silber, and Pamela Sneed. Their reflections accompany Diamond’s images in a shared exploration of memory, identity, and the inexorable passage of time.
