BODIES OF WORK: Family of Friends [1991]

Made in the midst of the AIDS epidemic, Family of Friends was a testimonial and outcry for the life we had before AIDS and embodied many layers of emotion and response to AIDS.

I began this work as a tribute/memory piece but it evolved into something more. The installation speaks of loss, fear, of what it is to be gay, and of strategies for coming to terms with AIDS as the purveyor of fright, sadness and anger.
