Anchors, 1988

Everything changed when my mother was diagnosed with cancer. I started looking back for fear of looking forward. When she asked, I began photographing her process of navigating alternative healing methods (including fire walking and the harvesting of monoclonal antibodies). The exchange called for both of us to reflect on our relationship and our mutual fear of death. Even in her process of healing, there was a feeling of loss. The scroll-like panels now linger as imprints, confirmation of a period in our relationship, in our shared lives, that has been but is no longer.
